Things to do after buying the slide
This short guide explains things to do and precautions to take after you bought your toy slide. The guide is equally applicable to water slides, pool slides and other outdoor slides
Finally you bought your favorite toy slide. The slide package is now ready to be opened and your kids are excited.
Remember, getting the slides up and ready to use may not be a simple task. Depending on the slides that you bought you might have to inflate them, assemble them or even drill holes on the ground to get the slide ready.
Do not hurry. Take your own time to set the slides up. Specially since kids are involved, safety should come first. Following steps can help reduce safety related issues during play time.
- Check for damages
- Read the instructions
- Fit the slides
- Strings, Chords and sharp edges
- Adult supervision
After opening the toys slide package, check the slide for any damages. The damages can result in sharp edges and points that could become a safety hazard. An inflatable slide may burst during operation if there are slight tears or worn off surface. Open each of the parts carefully and observe for any visible damages. Check the slope surface to make sure that it is smooth and there are no broken pieces. Make sure that the climber of the slide is strong enough to withstand the weight of your kid.
Read carefully the instructions that comes with the Toys slide. Check for the age limit, weight restrictions and other precautions. Remember that it is unsafe for older and heavier children to use the slides of small kids. An inflatable water slide can burst if exposed to heavier weight than the recommeded weight. The plastic and wooden slides can break if they are subjected to heavy weights. So make sure that the slides can withstand the weight of kids using it. There could also be other restrictions in the instructions manual that should be carefully followed. Inflatable slides may have extra restrictions than metal or wooden slides.
Make sure that the play slide is fixed properly and is stable. The toys slide should be stable on the ground and should not wobble. Unstable play slides can fall over while kids are climbing. So take extra precautions to make sure that the slides do not fall. You need to be specially careful with the wooden and metal slides as it could be fatal for the kids if the whole structure falls on them. You need to take extra care with the inflatable slides. They should not be placed over stones, thorns or other objects with sharp surfaces as they can puncture the inflatables. The inflatable water slides should be placed in such a way that the kids have enough place to slide to and do not hit the pool edges.
After you have fixed the slides, make sure that you do not leave chords or strings on the toy slides. Sliding normally is fast and a string getting entangled can have devastating effect. Make sure that there are no sharp edges that the kids may fall onto.
As with any playgound equipment, make sure that children play only under adult supervision. Get first aids ready
